"Painting has a special place in my heart." - Leilani

When it comes to painting, I feel the most free

Play

Free to trust my intuition and express my stories on canvas. I seek to uncover landscapes with a paintbrush while exploring the human condition.

Every since I was a little girl, I always found myself exploring in nature while daydreaming. I would dream about mystical lands and having an intuitive connection to plants. During this time of my life, my imagination ran wild, and I would be free to go home and create art that represented this relationship with nature.

The energy and connection that lies within the natural world has much to teach us about ourselves, and about one another.

My creative process

begins outside in nature. I have to feel connected to my surroundings to be able to let go and start. When I'm in nature I can trust my intuition better. It starts by building upon watery layers of paint, with the emphasis being on the sense of touch, allowing my intuition to guide me. As I make swooping arcs with the watered down paint, or soft delicate rubs with a towel to blend, a landscape slowly and organically forms. At this point it feels as if the entire scene already exists on the canvas.

My role is

not only to find the scene, but to pull it out of the haze, and make a human connection to it. I proceed to tattoo that emotion, figure, landscape, or symbolic connection onto the canvas. At this point, I permanently imprint a part of me that can't be described by words. It's a feeling of my experience while creating art in nature. A piece of my intuition thats unseen, until now.

These unseen moments may resemble memories, relationships, or the landscape that you consider home. My intent is to uncover what has always been there- waiting to be felt, seen, touched, loved.
